EXPANSION BEGINS

Dave and his amazing computer produced this drawing of our first major addition to the layout.....the wedges

Bob and Dave cut the wedge deck from plywood...so much for hollow doors...

We attached track. That’s iced tea in the mugs.

This was the result

Sandra sewing what seemed at the time to be about a half mile of new skirting.

Testing the new skirts...lookin’ good!

The next expansion came in the middle of the layout. We saw a need to stretch the sidings to allow for longer trains. This new idea sent Dave back to the computer

The new section added length and character

It also allowed for a shelf to be built for the control panel, a place to put stuff.

We stole an idea from another layout and built these covers for the LGB switch machines. Some of the trains hit the structures so we had to move the switch machines away from the switches

We were looking for more table space and decided to reroute the rails. It opened up an area for additional features on one end...

...and inspired the creation of a canyon at the other end

A cut was proposed and made.   A box was made of doorskin ply and Don took it home and turned it into a canyon.

Don and his daughter created waterfalls, a stream, and greenery in the canyon     Very nicely done

The canyon acquired a trestle and a road bridge to keep things rolling.

As the layout grew, transport had to expand as well    A new(er) van and a nice new trailer came into our lives

We are already feeling that we can’t get much more in this thing     Expansion is on hold at this time.....  Stay tuned
